Be selective when buying tools. There is no point in having tools you will never use. Also, where possible, select multi-functional tools.
Here are the most essential: balling tool, scriber (for marking patterns and dots), throating tool and a cel stick. You will also need a foam cel pad.
More ambitious sugarcrafters should consider investing in the following tools: curved boning tool, modelling tool (a smooth comb for finishing touches), short palette knife and paint brushes—pony hair for general work and sable for fine work. Craft knives of various sizes will also come in handy. Those interested in royal icing will need icing rulers and side scrapers.
You will also need the following ingredients: flour paste, dust colours, edible glue, wires (for flowers), marzipan, white icing, piping jelly and jam for the fillings of sponge cakes.
